Sustainable Transportation

The ASLA has just produced a great guide to the best online resources on sustainable transportation:

"Transportation corridors and facilities are major components of the nation’s landscape and public realm. Integrating comprehensive transportation planning with natural systems analysis and land use planning is essential for creating livable communities in sustainable environments."

Coral Cemetery

The PR agency SHIMONI FINKELSTEIN DRAFTFCB of Tel Aviv, Israel is responsible for an intriguing campaign for the Green party to raise awareness about the destruction of the red sea coral reef. 70% of the reef is already dead and it is disappearing at an alarming rate under the pressure of tourism. They created a "Coral Cemetery" that sign posted were the reef was dying and engaged visitors and locals to take action in protecting the reef where is was still alive. The national media coverage also put the issue on national agenda. This campaign is a Bronze Cannes Lions Media Winner.

Save our Seas

Talking of aquariums, this reminded me of a brilliant camping from the Save Our Seas Foundation that I saw on Inspiration Wall a while back.

This ad campaign is to raise awareness about the human perception of sharks and the effect it has on their reducing populations. The camping saw "Warning: Predators beyond this point" stickers stuck to the tank but with the writing backwards as if intended to warn the sharks on the inside of the tank.

The message "Humans kill over 100 million sharks every year" was also on the sticker and also part of the campaign was a plaque with a picture of a human and the description:

“A fierce predator found in both warm and cold waters. Preys on sharks, fining them alive and leaving them to drown in the open seas. Offspring, if uneducated, may imitate behavior of adult species.”

Docking Systems

"Docking Stations" are energy producing extensions to the conventional piers in New York City. The Design is a 2009 Next Generation proposal by Richard Garber, Nicole Robertson, and Brian Novello, of GRO Architects."Docking Stations generate" electricity by harnessing tidal energy through three vertical turbines on the underside of the floating dock. The energy is used to power streetlights and alleviate the need for conventional energy to light the city. "Each module generates up to 24 kilowatts of constant energy created by the bi-directional 4 mph current, supporting 350 LED streetlamps."

Brisbane

I have not updated the blog in a few weeks now because I have been working hard to meet a tight deadline. Now that it has past, I thought I would post a beautiful video on Brisbane where I have been working and living since April.
